[ United I'ress Association.] (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) FEDERATION. (Received January 24,11 a,m. Mmiiourne, January 24. An enthusiastic meeting on the subject of federation was beld at the Town Hall last uiglit, the Chief Justice presiding. Mr Keid, Premier of New South Wales, said it seemed to him that the first essential of a thoroughly successful federal movement was popular enthusiasm, and if not obtained in that way, it could only come by a popular panic. Let thoin take care they were not some day compelled to do in mad baste, that which had better bo done at leisure. They must not forget the great work done by Sir H. Parkes, and tho Sydney Convention. As an observer of the proceedings that convention, he had been unfavorably struck at its close by what seemed a feverish anxiety to smother the conflict of opinion upon matters of great importance. In tho draft Bill there has been a too palpable bid for "Federation at any price." He was sure N.S.W. was not prepared for such a Federation. Mr Kingston, Premier of South Australia and Mr Larke, Canadian representative, also spoke.
