A New Scheme.
(Received Jan. 23,10.30 a.m.) Mbliiocrne, January 23, The promoters of the National Trust, in connection with the meat export trade, have formulated a scheme, which is now being considered by tho Agricultural and Pastoral Societies throughout the country. They urge theGovornmenfc to pass a Bill to enable the stockholders of the Colony to form thornselves into a Trust, to develop tho /A meat export industry and that power SB be given to levy a rate on all stock; that the sum of one hundred aud forty-five thousand pounds will pro- | vide ample funds to establish freez-
ing and storage works in Melbourne, Geelong, Warrnambool, Portland, and any suitable places in tho country districts; this money to be provicled, as l-crjuircil, by the issue of debentures at five per cent interest, guaranteed by the Government. In order to provide interest and repayment of debentures a tax of 2s per hundred sheep upon the thirteen million in Victoria would bo necessary. This tax would bring in a yearly income of £13,000 which would provide interest and pay off the principal in fifteen years. A proportionate fax on cattle would probably yield £9,000 whioh could ho used in redeeming debenfares, or for the purpose of opening up markets in various parts of the globe.
