THE KENNEL

I Mr G. McCandlish, late manager of the Rimutaka run, a prominent member of the Kennel Club, and well-known for his famous breed of j collies, has remoyed his kennels to; Whakataki, where he is now located as tho proprietor of the Marine Hotel. Mr McCandlish passed through Masterton on Friday with his stud, which includes tho prizetaker Ayrshire Laddie, four Russian collies, Highland Mary, Dinah, and uyp, together with nineteen puppies, ono of the latter—a splendid specimen, and on which a high, value was placed by their owner—being unfortunately killed while in Masterton. Tho three litters Of puppies deserve more than passing notice, seeing that they possess tho best strain of blood to be met with in the Australasian Colonies. Highland Mary, who is by Champion Young England—Highland Lassie, has a litter of eight very fine pups by Herdwick, whose sire (Ormekirk Amazement) has one ofthebestpedigrce records in the Colony. Seeing that these youngsters can claim re- : lationship with Buch dogs as Britannia and Laird of Sherhonrne, MrMc-

Caudlish may justly feel proud of thorn, and keenly felt the loss of one of tho dogs, which bo unfortunately got killed on Friday. The other two litters are by Ayrshiro Laddie, whoso pedigroo is well-known inthis district, and it is a noteworthy fact that Christopher, the grand sire of OrmskirkStella, was soldfor£looo. The dams of these two litters, Dinah and Gyp, aro well-known as firstclass workers and theirprogeny have always found ready sale at satisfactory prices. There is no doubt Mr MeCaudlish is doing his utmost to improve that (to the shepherd and floekmustor) most useful of friends, and his efforts should meet with the support they deserve He has, however, been singularly unfortunate of late in losing some of iiis best dogs in various ways, and wo trust the change of locality will be the beginning of better luck for the future, Highland Mary has been entered for the produce stakes at the next Wellington Kennel Club Show.
