THE COUNCIL'S ATTITUDE.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir.,—lt has been freely circulated about town thatdespite the efforts of »nyopposition, theßoroughintendsto give a block vote in favor of the Thursday half-holiday (although several members have expressed themselves favorable to Saturday,) They maintain that it would be doing the outside community injustice. A petition has been signed asking the Mayor to call a public meeting to discuss tkis much vexed question. In his position he cannot refuse this request, which I maintain is the best way out of the difficulty. Let the mattor be threshed out from all points, as it effects the storekeepers' more than the outside public, We are compelled by the Act to closo one half-day a week; let the day to be chosen he decided by a majority of those concerned, and not our immaculate Borough Council, whose duty is merely to carry out the wishes of the majority.—l am, etc., Fair Plat.
