MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. 1 The regular fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council wis held last evening. Present, His Worship the Mayor, andCrsHessey, Hughes, Mutrie, Cullen, and E. Feist. I MINUTES. I The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. BUBSIDT. ' The Land and Income Tai Department wrote enclosing vouchers for subsidy due, for £4617s 6d and £l4O 12s 6d. VILLA STREET. A petition was received from certain ratepayers praying that Uppor Villa Street be formed and put into repair before the winter. Cr Cullen moved that tho Works Committee have power to deal with the matter. Cr Hessey said be was in favor of the work being done, but it would t\, be an expensive little job, and be /ML thought it should be let by contract. ■ Tho Mayor and Cr Cullen wero also of this opinion. The motion was then put and carried. BOARDING HOUSE LICENSES, J, O'Meara made application for a <Boarding House licensed or the Temperance Boarding House, in Hall Street, Messrs Street and Crowder also applied for a license for the Railway Boarding House. The Mayor and Cr Cullen were appointed a Committee to inspect the premises of both applicants. FIRE BRIGADES. The Masterton Municipal Fire Brigade made application for a grant of £5 for salary of the Kuripuni engine keeper. Tho application was granted. GENERAL. The half-holiday quostion was jk dealt with as reported in another tWcolumn. The dog tax for the year was fixed ai ss. The report of the Workß and Finance Committee was read and adopted. On the motion of Cr Cullen the Council then adjourned.
