THE HOSPITAL DRAINAGE.
[to the editor.] Sin,—The Masterton Hospital Trustees are to a Tast extent responsible for any cases of typhoid fever occurring in this distinct. The Hospital sewage is emptied into a creek which flows across the public #road, leading to the Taueru, and many a time havo I observed people quenching their thirst at this innocent looking rivulet. What is the result ? Germs of typhoid disseminated in every directiou! By the wise expenditure of a few pounds this danger could bo easily remedied. fl understand a system of drainage on the cess-pit principle is fo be commenced immediately. This is another fatal error! Why not obtain a high pressure water scheme, say from Messrs Williams and Beethams' dam, and thus secure a perfect system of drainage into the Waipona, 1 consider it would bo advisable to place a notice near this polluted stream, and write thereon in imitation of the Newcastle apothecary's phraseology " Before taken to be well shaken,' —I am, etc., Convalescent.
