Masterton, Monday. Messrs R. B. Hornblow and Co., produco merchants and auctioneers report as follows for week ending January sth

We notice an improvement in business now tho holidays are over, although prices for all kinds of produce arc very low and are likely to : continue so for some time to come. New potatoes are plentiful and priecß are low in consequence. Grain of overy description is still low in price and only afairamouutof business doiug. Onions are plentiful and prices have a downward tendency. All kinds of poultry are down in price as will be seen on referonce to our quotations. In grass seeds the market is unsettled, but we are inclined to think the yield will bo better than at first anticipated. Sheep and rabbit skins remain at last week's quotations. Our weekly horse sales continue to be well supported, and better prices were realised on Saturday. For the benefit of farmers nnd others we have introduced a weekly sale of dairy cows and quitted all lines entered on Saturday in fact we had more buyers than expected. The following arc our quotations Butter, (id por lb; eggs, 7d per dozen. Poultry: Fowls, 2s to2s9dper 1 pair; ducks, 3s Gd; Turkeys, 6s 6d; geese, 4s 3d. New potatoes, Gs to 8s per cwt, 161bs for Is. Onions (new), 121bs for Is, Oats, Is lid to 2s 3d per bushel; wheat, 3s to 3s 6d, Chaff, only bright clean samples enquired for, which find ready sale, prices, 2s Gd to 2s 9d per sack for oaten sheaf; chaff, Is 3d. Grass seeds, cocksfoot and rye from 3d to 4id per lb for former and 28 9d to 3s 9d per cwt for latter. Rabbit skins, to Gib por lb. Sheep skins, 2d to 4d per lb. Horses, hacks, £3 to £7los; light draughts, from £9 to £l3; light harness, £ll to £l2 10s, Cattle, dairy cows, £5 to £7, calves, from 17s 6d; yeai lings, 29s 6d. Land: We sold one house and section in Makora Road last week; leasehold farms are still in demand, and have several good clients on our books requiring properties of this description.
