The Premior has written to the manager of the Helton Colliery and the Secretary of the Miners' Union, suggesting a conference in order to avoid a struggle. The Govemmont proposo to carry out the work of thinning the forest reserves under tho co-operative system, and £25,000 has been voted for the purpose. Perth", Jan. 5. A serious explosion hnß taken place atFreemantlo. Several pounds weight of dynamite cartridges,stored near the Government magazine, exploded with terrific force, the iron doors of the magazine were blown in and several buildings in the vicinity of the explosion sustained damage. One man named Donovan was seriously injured.
