[United Press Association.] (By Electric Tclctjritph-Copi/ritjM.) Gorean War. Shanghai, January 4. Severe fighting took place at Newchangon the 22nd of last month, the engagement lasting six hours. General Sung, who was in command of the Chinese forces, believing that he had been defeated, beat a retreat. The Japanese, at the same time retired to Haitcheng, the scene of the battle fought some days ago, whereupon Sung again advanced, and re-occupied Newchang. Moukden is in a state of anarchy. Proposal for the McKinley Wool duties. Y Washington, Jan. 4. The Tariff Amendment Bill has been introduced in the Senate. Tho Eepublican Party will proposo amendments, omitting the income tax and reinserting the McKinley wool schedule.
