meeting of Creditors. Tbo first meeting of creditors in the estato of Geo. Gray was held at the office of Mr W. B. Ohennells, Deputy Official Assignee at noon to-day. The D.O.A. presiding, the only creditors represented were the South Pacific Loan Company. The debtor was examinod 'at length, by the D.0.A., and stated ho had incurred heavy liabilities in connection with a property at Marton, valued at £BOO, of which debtor was to have half wheu it was disposed of. The laud was his sister's as a military grant, but the grant had not been issued, MrMoorhouse, solicitor, had acted for witness in the matter of the land, and mado several advances on account of it, Two petitions had been presented to Parliament in respect of the grant and issueof the title. Norecommendation had been made by the committees of the house, and there was no advanco with the title. The principal creditors had accepted an order on Mi 1 Moorliouse for the payment of their claims on the issue of the title and disposal of the land, The debts were incurred in prosecuting the claim to the property, and being out of employment for eighteen months. He could not say now how the claim stood with regard to the land, as since the second petition to Parliament his sister had died. Ho had no offer to make. He was the leader of Gray's private band. The property of the band belonged to him, the earning of this baud weredivided among the members. He had received no money from any members of the band for instruments. The instruments were obtained and paid for out of the band funds by witness. He had no intention of filing till pressed by the South Pacific Loan Company. By Mr Cook (South Pacific Loan Company): He knew about the land but didnot mention it when he borrowed the money from the Loan Company. The D.O.A, said that the land claim appeared bona fide, and Mr Moorliouse was evidently satisfied that the claim was good.
