On Christmas Evo our town presented quite a city-like ap)i> pearance,Main Street being crowded 3y with people. The shopkeepers did to a splendid business. Mr Bailors' ese. tablishment was nicely decorated, j. and underneath the verandah were i id bung a large number of Chinese lanterns, which added much to the d attractiveness of this shop. The [ 0 Baud discoursed musical selections n in different parts of the town daring g tho evoning. On Boxing Day the town was quite deserted, most of tho residents having patronised either , the Martinborough Races or tho Carb terton picnic. Thero were no amuse--1 meat of any kind provided in the .. town. A few enthusiasts in the game of cricket played a game on tho r Recreation Reserve durin? the aftera noon. . The Wesleyan S.S. Anniversary picnic takes place on New Year's Day, in Mr J. Wilkie's paddock. I hear thero was a quiet wedding celebrated hero on Boxing Day, ■. Mrs Snowshall's hen roost was visited early on Boxing morning by a dog, who managed to kill about 24 fowls.
