Petone has carrie'da drainage loan and Petone is to be congratulated. The people in that Borough are evidently more intelligent and more progressive than the people of Masterton. On all sides we see smaller towns than this "moving on" aud adopting water supply and drainage schemes, and leaving this town, which should be the finest inland centre of the North Island sticking in mud, filth, and depression. Potono is as yet a smaller town than Masterton, but in two or three years time it will—from its enterprise-be a larger one,
