ANNUAL SHEEP RETURNS.
The annual sheep returns hare just been completed by the Stock Department, and they show an increase of 850,460 sheep within the year ended the 30th April last Totals for tho ■ North Island, 9,169,352 sheep; increase, 483,991. Number of owners, 7220; increase, 495. Sheep rate, £9169; increase, £484. Totals for the South Island, 11,061,477 sheep; increase, 366,469. Numbers of owners, 8617; increase, 560. Sheep rate, £11,062; increase, £367. Totals for the Colony, 20,230,829 sheep; increase, 850,460. Number of owners, 15,837; increase, 1058, Sheep rate, £20,281; The detailed statistics show an increase of sheep in 49 counties and a decrease in 23 counties; the increase in the North Wairarapa beine 53,563, 6
