A Cabinet Split (Received Dee. 17,11.20 a.m.) Sydney, Dec. 17. Mr Justice Foster has resigned. He will be succeeded by Mr Simpson, Attorney General, Mr Want taking the latter position. Mklhourse, Dec. 17. There is a split in the Cabinet' over the taxation proposals, as a rpulfc of which Sir P, S. Sargood, mtcr of Defence, has resigned fnsHlie Ministry. He opposed tho iVdwase in the exemption, and also diaacfreed with the methods adopted by tho Government in presenting tho taxation in the Bill. These methods he considered were an infringement of the rights of the Legislative Council. The Premier in accepting Sir P. S. Sargood's resignation,wrote to him stating that he was surprised: that so old a Parliamentarian as Sir F. S. Sargood should liavo sent a copy of his letter containing his resignation to Knowing the taxation intentions of tho Ministiy he should have declined to join in the first instance,
