The Ringarooma.
Qaptmn Johnston and Iwo Officers Reprimanded,
(llccoivod Dec. 11, 1 a.m.) Sydney. Dec. 10, The court-martial in connection with the stranding of H.M.S.RingaIrooma found the charges against Captain Johnston proved, inasmuch as tho course steered after tlio vessel passod Dip Point was not stated by tho hour ordoi'-book, and ho took no steps to check the course laid down by tho navigating officer. Tho charge, against Lieutenant Cbetwynd was proved, as he kid down a course which for no apparent reason led much nearer to land than was necessary. That officer also neglected to remain on deck whilo the vessel was in closo proximity to ! tho land. Tho Court also found that tho charge against Lioutonant McDonald had been proved, as ho failed fa call the captain, and inform him of tho ship's dangerous proximity to land, although he considered it necessary for the safety of the vessol to alter her course Captain Johnson was sovoroly reprimanded by the Court, and admonished to be more careful in future. Lieutenant Cbetwynd wassev.crcly reprimanded, and dismissed from his commission on tho Ringarooma.i Lieutonant McDonald was also! severely reprimanded. _ A The Court expressed its appreciation of the. energy and ability displayed by tho captain and ship's company in oxtricating the vessel from the reef on which she stranded.
