The Ringarooma.
Progress of the Court Martial, (Received Dec, 9,6.45 p.m.) Sydney, December 9.
At the Court-martial into tho stranding; of H.M.S. Ringarooma, the case for tho prosecution has closed. Captain Johnson and Lioutenantß Chetwyndand McDonald have begun their defence. Captain Johnson asserts that the ship was carried off her course by currents, that Lieutenant Cbetwynd did not lay the proper coiu'so; that Lieutenant McDonald altered tho course without informing or consulting him. There would, he declares, have beon no accident had a proper look out been kopt, Lieut. Chotwynd reserved his statement until a later stage. Lieut. McDonald admitted having made a technical error in not calling ' tho captain when land was sighted, but explained that he'was under tho impression that he did not wish to be called unless in caso of urgency. Ho also admitted altering tho courso but assorts that it only had the effect of keeping the ship further from danger,
