I hear, writes the Wellington correspondent of the Christchurch Press, on what seems excellent authority, that important changes aro pending in the management of the Assets Company. If I am correctly informed, as I think I am, tho business of the Company will presently be wholly managed in New Zealand, by two prominent Wellington citizons, who will be vested with full powers of attorney. They are the Hon. WaltcrJohnstono and Sir Booth. The

accented the position of Government Solicitor.undcr the Advances to Settlers Act, for tliis District, which will probably be a very large one, as wd understand only nine solicitors have been selected to act for the Government throughout the Colony. The present arrangements will not interfere with tho private practice of the gentlemen accepting tho positions, but there is some talk of the Government before very long, concentrating all Crown law business in tho hands of one solicitor in each district at a pennauent salary, and if so an effort may h made to induce them to give up private practice, but if this should be insisted upon, we doubt very much whether tho gentlemen selected, all leading practitioners, will accept any restriction of their private practice, other than that necessary to carry out their duties to the Government,
