LICENSING COMMITTEE.
Quarterly Meeting,
The quarterly meeting of the Mantcrton Licensing Committeo was held at noon to-day (Friday). PresentMessrs A, Walker (Chairman), J, Hcssey, C. E. Daniell, Thos. Chamberlain, J. Dawson,A. Stowart, aud F, Bright, An apology from the Chairman (Mr T. Hutchison) re absonce was read.
The minutes of the previous quarterly meeting and adjourned meetings were read and confirmed. In regard to the minutes of the previous meeting, Mr Stewart, said that they were slightly in error in stating that tho improvements of the Makuri Hotel were not earned out when the Constable sent his report in to the Committee. Being ill at the time he could not move iu tho matter when tho report was received, He only stated this in fairness to the policeman iu question.
As the minutes were correct in detail, they wore put and carried.
George Dennis applied for a permanent transfer of the Royal Hotel. The police report was favourable. Correspondence was read re the Akiteo Hotel, but not received, Applications for an extension of the hours of license were read from all the hotels in Eketahuna and Pahiatua, also tho Tenui Hotel, The Chairman said that it had already been ruled by the Committee that the hot-els mentioned should be closed at ten o'clock, and if the lessees wished tho time extended they slioald set forth their reasons for so wishing. Tho Sorgcant wished to make a statement, but was prevented by Mr Stewart ruling that the police had nothing to do whatever in the granting of an extension of timo to hotels, but was a matter to he left entirely in tho hands of the Committee.

I lessees of the hotels of Eketahuna las a wliolo, gavo his reasons as to | why the Committee should grant jthem an extension of time. The • police report upon these places was favorable, and as tho olevon o'clock liconso bad proved a benefit in Masterton, ho thought the same would be the case if granted to Eketahuna Hotols. The police report was to the effect that it would not bo bonefioial to extend the timo of liconse for evorv hotol which might apply, without the people of the district having a knowledge of tbo samo, and raising any objections they may think fit. Mrs Low, tho licensee, applied for an extension of time in which to dispose of tho hotel. Arrangements had beei made with only Harney for the sale of same, but had not proved bonajidc. The Court was at this stago cleared, while tho Committee considered the business.
On resuming the extension of the hours of license for tho Eketahuna and Pahiatua Hotels, and Tenui Hotel was granted. Tho pennant transfer from Emily Rayncr to George Dennis, of the Royal Hotel, was granted, An extension of timo in which to olfect a transfer, was granted to Mrs Low, of tho Star hotel, The lessee of the Union Hotel, Pahiatua, was granted leavo to alter the nnmo to the Post Oflico Ilotol, I
Mrs Owen's application ro the hotel lamp light, was not granted. The meeting then adjourned,
