A scaiik has. recently been raised in Mnsterton against water and drainago which may be expected to subside as quickly as it was produced. Unreliable rumours nb'out the Gas Works alarmed the burgesses and set them against works of all kinds. It consequently became necessary to drop water and drainage during the Mayoral contest. Still water and drainage have to come in this town, and will come, the only question to our mind is whether they will be introduced in a wise and prudent manlier, or brought in foolishly and imprudently, Our own aim is the introduction of both in a wise, pru-' dent, and well considered undertaking. To effect this -a water and drainago'■league should be formed, which should include the most able men in the community. In such; hands a project which would bo ab-; solittely . safe' as an ' iuvestttient for tlio burgesses might be carefully framed. Once the people recogniso that an- efficient solienio had been devised, that it. could be carried out without bungling and blundering, mid that its cost would, not''be unduly- burdensome, 1% would vote for it. . When we consider the great advantages such a projectwould confer on the town we wonder nt tlio apathy of the public,. Is it not time |.that typhoid and other : malarious diseases were driven out of the place; is it not time that tlio ruinous insurance' premiums that we now pay were cutdown; is it not time that the dust; stonns wliiqli; oppress people ait this season: of the year were laid; is it not time that the people had pitrc water to drink; is it not time tlmt they hnd a proper supply to cleanse their yards, wash their buildings and water their gardensPDotliepeoploßay!'no",toalltliis?
