NASTERTON MAYORAL ELECTION.
Mr George Heron' Returned.'
Considerable interest was taken in the Masterton Mayoral election
yesterday, and the friends of each candidate worked hard to bring voters- to the poll. A considerable
number of residents assembled'to

Hornblow : 83' j .Mr Heron, who'was present; was applauded, . and ■■■.'■ briefly, returned thanks,'promising to do liis best for the Borough, as he always bad in the past, Nsw. that the poll hud been declared, lie would ask: "Where was the Boaster," tho man who said he would have sixty more votes than either MrPowiiall or himself, (Cheers and laughter). Again .'. thanking those present Mr, Heron retired,, Mr Pownal|, who was also received with applause, heartily thanked the 115 who had voted for him. The poll showed'that Mr Heron's policy was preferred to his own on this occasion, and he was satisfied. He was hot disheartened and should at'sonlb future time again oiler himself for the position, (Applause.) Several cries of "Hornblow," " Where's Hornblow" followed, but Mr Hornblow did not come forward, Mr H. Marsh, however, attempted to make a speech presumably on Mr Hornblow's behalf, but the crowd refused to hear a word from him, and amidst great confusion ho indignantly gave up the attempt. Mr Pownall tjien proposed a vote of thanks to Mr 11 Brown, the Returning Officer, and the proceedings closed, i As showing the intorest taken in yesterday's Mayoral election we give the number of votes polled at the three previous elections, 352 being polled yesterday : 1893-Hcron ... 152 Ronall ... 81 ;
