Wemington, Wodnesday. Yesterday afternoon Thomas Halsail was charged with obtaining by falso pretences at Masterton, on September Ist and 20th,thosumsof £3 and £2respectively from William Keeble,
Tho jury retired at 3,17 p.m., and after an absonce of 25 minutes, returned into Court with a verdict of guilty. Theprisonorwas sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour.
Duncan Mcintosh wes charged \ with having obtained by falge protences SA 9s from Albert White at' Ekotahuna on tho 20th August, and £2 from James Jones, of Ekctahuna, on tho samo dato,as well as nnothori £2 on the 21st August. The jury returned a verdict of guilty,
Mr Hindmarsh applied to havo the accused, who is only 21 years of age, admitted to probation, His Honor did not consider that the prisonor was a fit subject for probation, and sontonced him to line months imprisonment with hard labour,
