Masterton 2nd. ut Greytown 2nd:
The junior' match between the above teams was played on the Oval oil Saturday, resulting in a narrow victory for Greytown by four runs on the. first innings. The visitors arrived with threo men short, and bad. to pick. substitutes from the ground. 0, Beard captained Groytowii, and : Harland did like service for Masterton, Messrs Tucker and Murray acting as umpires. The play was nothing staiiling, and- small scoring was tho order of the day. The bowling of both teams was fairly strong,, and batting equally weak, Masterton went first to tho wickets, and made 35 runs, Wrigley 10 not out, playing by far the best cricket. Aii easy win was expected for tho visitors, and they faced tho bowling very confidently, but the splendid trundling of Wrigley and Wickens, played havoc with the bats men, and a total of 39 only was reached, of which Eccleton contributed ten, and,' Beard and extras (through faulty long-stopping) seven |,each. .A,victory was.thus obtained by four rims on this. innings, Masterton again went in, and scored 51, runs, Harland -arid Wickeus'-'nine; each, andMason,.Wrigley, and. Johnston'seven each, being' tho principal batsmen,; Time? would not allow, Greytown to finish their innings, and at six o'clock they had registered twenty for the loss of four wickets, Madsen and Beard heading tho list, The fielding on the wliolo was very good, and was tho one redeeming feature in the play of both. teams. Mason (Masterton), and Madsen (Greytown) excelled themselves iin this department, each taking two difficult catches in pretty stylo. The following wero tlie Bcorcs .
