The Rev A. C. Yorke's Letter.

[To the Ewroit.W.D. Times.]

Please let me state the facts of the case, and any intelligent man will. seß.tbat, : it.'was nofc-apiivate i letter;' "An invitation was sent from the Wesleyan Teachers' meeting, numbering about thirty,,', to.'the Incumbent of St Matthew's to be present at tho Sjmday School Soiroe, Instead of replying to the Secretary, who conveyed tho wishes of the teachers, as in all courtesy he ought to havo done, he wrote to tho Rev. J. Dukes declining' l ' theinvitation, (which, of course, in the exercise, of private judgment he had a perfect right to do).. But he went .beyond this, he took" the 'opportunity of gratuitously insulting another section of the' Church. The letter referred to was a reply to tho School Secretary's inntation, and as the invitation proceeds from a: public body, and not from. a private individual, any man's common;sense will recognise that tho reply! was a public one, accordingly the place for its publicity was at,tho public meeting, when, ns an apology for nonattendance it was placed 'invito Chairman's hands to be read,' When read at tho public meeting it became the property of the press, and through tho press of the public—l ain,otc,,;
