The statement has been made public from Masterton, that the work of employing men on co-opera-tive road and railway works has virtually beeip taken out of the hands of the Labor Department and given to the police. Tho Department desires to state thatno such arrangement has been made, but, on the contrary, through its local agents in the Torty-milo Bush, it lias now inure to do with putting oilmen than before, a much better agreement having been made between the Public Works and Labor Department.
