GLADSTONE.

(From a Correspondent.)

. A very successful dance was held in the Gladstone Hall, Wednesday last being the last night .of the Quadrille Assembly,, which has been carried on fortnightly all the winter. The floor, as usual, was in perfect order, and the music all that could be desired. Tho attendance was the largest during the season. Several visitors were present from Masterton and Carterton, amongst them being Thompson, Mrs Miller, Miss Gray, black velvet, Miss Baggerley, pink, Miss Miller,, crimson aud white, Miss M. Miller, white, and two younger sisters in white blouses and dark skirts, Miss Laing, a visitor to Calton Hill, in bluo crepon, Miss MoLachlan, cardinal and white. Many others whose names I am nimble to give, also looked very nice. Amongst the gentlemen visitors present we noticed Messrs Mason (M.0.), J. Renall, J. McPhee, H, Mitcholl, H, Greathead, W. Thompson, R, Jackson,?. Sexton, A. Smith, J. S. Hand,B. Kemble, C. Downavd, and many others. A very pleasant break in the programme was two songs by Mr Downard, rendered in a very pleasing manner. An extra waltz was played by Miss M. Miller.

After tho refreshments were handed round,Mr Renall in a few well chosen words, thanked those present for their patronage during the season, and announced that the ball which takes placo in about a fortnight, would bo the final for the Beason. After a very enjoyable evening; tho company broke up about half past one. <
