MASTERTON PARK TRUSTEES.
Special Meetinq. A special meeting of the Musterton Park Trustees was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs J. Payton (Chairman), J. 0. Boddington, A. W. Renall, F. 6. Mooro and E, Feist. _ ; CBIOKET. A letter frbm the ■ Masterton cricketers, asking the Trustees to receive a deputation with regard to the charge for using the Oval was read by the Secretary. MrW. C. Cargill, on behalf of the Masterton Cricket Club was in attendance; He said that he had been delegated to wait upon the Trustees to ask them to reconsider the charge of £3 proposed to be levied on all - Clubs using the Oval, The ground was in a very bad state and would require a considerable outlay. Again 1 cricket did not receive the same • public support as football, and the Clubs were not in a strong position, [ Cricket did no harm to the Oval, and before anything could be done an expenditure of at least £9or £lO would ! liavo to be incurred to make a pitch, It would therefore be seen that the ( proposed charge of £3 would be rather a heavy one. The Chairman said it appeared j that a considerable sum would be I required to put the Oval in order, 5 He should be quite prepared to vote a sum towards such work. All the s Trustees required fees for, was to t effect improvements. ( Mr Boddington said after Mr 1 CargiU'B reraarkßhd saw plainly that there was reason to reconsider the » previous decision to charge. £3 to i each club. Mr Cargill suggested that a 1 charge be made for each match • played, but that Clubs be allowed to practice free, He believed that the f Masterton Club would be quite willIT ing to allow the Park Trustees to f take all gate-money at matches pro- ■ vided the use of the Oval is granted free, e After some discussion ; it was e resolved on the motion of the Chair- ! man that the Trustees are willing to y accept a small gato fee on the oci casion of Association matches, in lieu '' of tho £3 enhance fee; each Association Club to signify its intention to either pay the entrance' fee or • allow the gate fee, and only the Ass sociation Clubs to have charge of the " Oval during the cricket season, 0 Mr Cargill thanked the' Trustees e for their hearing, e The Chairman said any revenue c derived from cricket would be spent t. on improvements, S ATHLETIC CLBI). if The Secretary of the "W.A.A, and e Cycling Club wrote asking permisir sion to erect a temporary dressing P shed and also requesting the Trustees " to co-operate with the Club in keeping tho running track in order, and ir suggesting that a cinder track be " put down. s _ .It was decided to allow a temporary shed to be erected on a site apu proved _ by the Chairman, but that j no action could be taken re cinder ' track at present, l 6 grandstand, tv Plans and drawings of a grandit stand and dressing rooms, for the !a Masterton Park, prepared by Mr L. J. Forde, of the firm of Penty and Forde, to seat 300 people aud to , cost £2OO wore submitted. 10 Tho Chairman moved that the n plans be accepted, as recommended a by the sub-committee. [* Mr F, 6, Moore seconded tho j„ motion, which was carried, h The Chairman said that there 'fi would probably bo some difficulty in ™ raising the money required, The sub-committeo had arecommeudation it to make as follows regarding sub- *- scriptions 3i That local bodies or clubs contributie to the cost of the Grandstand i- be charged 2a percent, of their takings I- from tho same,-That local bodies or :• clubs contributing £5 to the cost of the is Grandstand be charged 60 per cent, of n their takings from the same.—That non- • contributing bodies or clubs be cliarged 0 75 per cent, of their takings from tho sumo.—That the gate privileges he not s let to any local body or club which does ,8 not agree to pay tho abovo charges, 11 Each section of the above proB posal was put and carried, Messrs d Payton, Moore, and Feist, voting for the proposals, and Messrs Bodding. r. ton and Renall objecting on the g ground that the 25 per cent, charge was too low, and sufficient [ lars were not to hand, >[ Tho Chairman moved and Mr i- Feist seconded that the Park Trus- " tees contribute £lO towards the [ Grandstand, out of their funds.Carried. s On the motion of Mr Moore it was a resolved that the powers of the present Grandstand Committee be enlarged to enable them to provide tho funds for the construction of tho Grandstand, tenders when called to be submitted to the Trustees, Tho Chairman said that the work of the Committee had been very carofufly done, and a good deal of time devoted to it, They now had the difficult task in front of them of finding ways and means, The motion was then carried, THE BAND. The Secretary said he had been asked to bring under the notice of the Trustees- the fact that a band had been collecting money at the Park gates on Sunday. Messra Boddington and Feist spoke against the practice of allowing a liian to stand at the gate with a collection box, as it deterred people from going into tho Park, The Chairman moved that collecting money at the Park gates be prohibited, unless tho Trustees permission be first .obtained,. • Mr Moqre was of opinion that this would prevent the Bands paying in the Park on Sundays. Some people liked to hear tho music, and it would be a pity to cut off their enjoyment. Regarding the remarks of the other Trustees, he could not see how a man standing at a gate with a box should make any differonce to persons going in or out, whether they contributed or not They need not contribute if they did not feel inclined. Finally after further discussion the motion was earned. - A CJI'PMIM' Mr Boddington asked that tliS fitjption be called to the sareiess'manner- in which rgbbisK bad been bhrnt iff the I 'Park. :.Some )f the heaps 'were only partially burnt.. . ■: . . The meeting then adjourned,■ ■ • ■
