Price, J.P., was ap- "" pointed Treasurer to the Testimonial Fund and Mr D. S. Papworth was appointed; Secretary.' ... , :,; Two candidates were elcctodmerabcrs of the Association. <m£. Mr J. E. Mercier, a delegate from the General Workers' Union, stated that he was making this visit to the Wairarapa on account of representations'that bad been made to him. These representations wcro that although he had at. a previous date made a most successful canvass of the district, and sneieeded in forming a local branch of the General Workers' Union, the branch had not been a success. It had been stated that ho had collected [ subscriptions and bad then left the branch to die out. It was purely on this account that he had ' voluntarily decided to return and t try to place this branch on a firm i footing. A public meeting would be ; held in Masterton at an early date, i and ho would ask the Association to > assist him. Messrs W. W. Collins, ■ J, W. Kelly, W. Hutchison, and A. 1 W. Hogg, MRU's would probably 1 address tho It was decided that while'the' 1 Association sympathised with Mr j Mergiprt efforts to firmly establish \ a local* branch of the Workers' Union, it would bo advisablo for Mr I Mercier to hold his public meeting ■ entirely under the auspices of that 1 union.
