Mil J. F.'Mercier, an interesting young man clad in a straw hat and summer clothing, is now walking about Masterton trying to induce men to join tho Workers' Union. What this Union is we know not, but wo presume it has a mission to support out of workniou's wages genial delegates of hiscalibre. MrMercier has been here before and on. that occasion did not appear to strike " oil," the shearers whom he then courted seeming to fight a little shy of .him. It is with some pleasure we learn that the local Liberal Association has courteously declined to co-opev-ate with him in getting up a public demonstration in this town. There is ho doubt a good deal of distress and discontent in this district, but all that can be clone to alleviate this will be accomplished without the aid of outsiders like Mr J. P. Mercier,
