A WAGES DISPUTE.
A claim tor disputed wages came before Mr T. Hutchison' S.M., in the Mastorton Court this (Thursday) morning between a building contractor and one of his employes. The plaintiff, W, Follinghain, claimed wages for ton weeks'work at eight shillings pov day, which the contractor, IV. Pearco, stated was to bo worked out by him in return, as the plaintiff was at the time thinking of building for himself. Tlio plaintiff denied this, stating that no arrangement had been mado between tlio parties, and ho had only received £3 2s on account of amount claimed. The contractor received eight shillings per day for the employes work whilst alterations were being made to Mr Tucker's Hotel. W. Fcllingham who had boon iu the joining trado for nine years, stated that he was not out of employment at the time, as ho had refused other work to oblige the contractor, and expected to receive eight shillings per day in return. The defendant stated that lie intended to work himself in conjunction with one of his men for one month at tlio plaintiff's house to balance tho niuo weeks worked by the plaintiff. The Magistrate (Mr T, Hutchison) considered that the Workmon's Lion Act specified that an employe should receive his wages every week, unless there was an agreement to the contrary irrespective of contract, and he would give judgment for tlio amount claimed I anil costs, I
