Paiuatua, Tuesday. _ At a meeting of the Borough Council, held last evening, a letter was received from the Clerk to the County Council, to tho effect that if an article in the local paper was correct, and the Borough Council had no intention of calling upon tho Comity Council to contribute n portion oE tlie cost of the llangalainokn Bridge, then the County Council would offer no objection to the Borough Council proceedingwith tho work, on condition they gave a written gnarant-cn to that effect.
The Council went into committee to consider tenders for the erection of the bridge, and it is understood that the tender of Mr J. Dawson has been accepted conditionally. A meeting of the Debuting Society was held last evening, when " The Undesirable Immigrants Exclusion Bill" was discussed. Mr Eagle led in support and Mr Hawkins against tho Bill. A number of speakers took part in the debate, and the Bill was rejected by a substantial majority. The Pahiatua Dairy Company sent away two tons of butter yesterday, Tho Makakahi and Mangutaiiioka Butter Factories arc now receiving 1,100 gallons of milk daily, and the quantity is rapidly increasing. The factories at Hawera and Woodvillc, and I he Central Factory at Pahiatua, are expected to be opened next week.
