CRICKET.
H/lasterton Cmket Club.
A well-attended meeting of' cricketers was held in the Prince of Wales Hotel on Saturday ovening, Dr Butement occupying tho chair. It was decided to form a new Club to be called the " Masterton Cricket Club," and endeavour to-to put more life into the game in this portion of the district, Mr W. R. Bone was unanimously elected Secretary. Through the kindness of Mr Williams, an excellent ground has been offered to the Club at Lansdowne at a nominal rental, and it was stated by experienced cricketers that in the courso of a few years the ground could be made one of the finest in tho colony, nud large enough for several matches to be played at the same time. A committee comprising Messrs Whatman W. C. Cargill, -Hughes, C. Perry, and the Secretary, was appointed to ascertain the cost of starting the Club on a firm footing, and to report at the next goueral meeting to be held on Saturday at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Messrs Whatman and Bone were chosen delegates to attend the meeting of the Wairarapa Association at Cartorton on . Wednesday evening next, to act as they thought fit. The Secretary reported that. ho had obtained a strong list of intending members, and there was every appearance of the Club proving a success. It was stated that in all probability the Excelsior and Tradesmen's Cricket Clubs would amalgamate, and the Club would be enabled to place several teams in the field. Votes of thanks to tho Chairman and Secretary concluded the meeting, the election of officers, etc., being left over till next Saturday evening.
