The anti-Chinese meeting last evening lias not thrown much light on the alien problem. Somehow Chinese morals andChineso methods of trading got a little mixed up. The public cannot deny the Chinese a fair field for trading in a British Colony,'but they have a right to insist that an alien population should be regulated in certain matters. For example, sanitation does not form part of Chinese civilisation and hence when Chinese communities spring up amongst us there is a special danger. We do not see why 'a special provision should not bo made when the Municipal Act is amended to enable Corporations to thoroughly inspect and control Chinese residences and to collect from the residents sufficient fees to cover the cost of such inspection.
