CORRESPONDENCE.
[to the editor, w.d. times.]
Sin,—ln view of the many stump extractors that are in the district, I would suggest as a means of trying their various merits before the public that a competition be held, say under the auspices of the Masterton Agricultural Society, I am aware that every patentee considers his particular machine Ilia stump extractor of the district; this is as it should be, until their various qualities are brought prominently before the settlers, as it is unlikely tho owners will pointoufc the defects of their 1 machines. I think a competition would be a great advantage to owners of stump extractors and would lead to a corresponding benefit to the public. I trust flip Agricultural Societies will seo theinvay clear to encourage ihis enterprise, sis I consider tlmt agricultural societies exist fpr the benefit qf - tho public. In this piatter a convenient paddoclc li.eay Masterton could easily 'Jje procured for the purpose of carrying out the-competition. Hoping' Bqme abler pen than mine will take' this matter up, lam etc., SSTOI'R.
