FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR J.BAUMBER

The grout respect in which the late Mr J. Baumber was held in Masterton, was amply demonstrated by tbo large number of people attending his funeral yesterday, the procession being one of the longest and most representative over seen in Mnsterton. Friends and relatives were present from Wellington and Pahiatna to pay their lust respects to the deceased, and the following was not confined to the sterner sex alone, roa,ny lady teachers andothers connected with the Wcsleyan Church, joining the procession

The coffin covered in beautiful wi oaths—was placed on the Volunteer Mro Brigade's manual engine, both brigades being well represented, and the amalgamated Bands heading the procession, After the relatives of the deceased came theUessrs Casolberg ami all the stall of the W.F.0.A., followed by the TiVesleyan Sunday School children and teachers, the remainder of the procession including all the business men of Masterton, and many of the principal settlers, Messrs It Marsh and J, Prentice acted as marshals, and the pall-bearers were Captain I). Pickering, Captain Payne, Liout. Hunter; Captain Pickering (Pahiatua), and Jlessrs J. Engol and W. Prague] I,Honorary Members of the Brigade, The servico at the grave was impressively conducted by the Revs. J. Dukes, S. J. Gibson and W. Bowse, each takiiis a portion of the ceremony, and two hymns being sung by the Wesleyan Choir. ■ Altogether the sceno was most solemn and impressive, business being temporarily suspended, and most of tlio shops closing for 'an hour from four till live o'clock.
