Pahiatua, Monday,
A meeting of settlers was held (it Mangatainoka on Saturday night to consider the best moans of securing an alteration in tlie nature of their holdings from perpetual lease to lease in perpetuity, Mr T. Polglaae was in the chair, Mr Helps read some eorrespondeneo from Mr Hogg and the Minister for lauds, On .the motion of Mr Barrell, seconded by Mr James, it was resolved that the mooting .urge on the Minister for Lands the necessity of amonding the Land Act, so that all desirous of converting their tenure into lease in perpetuity, may.be allowed an opportunity of doing so without, delay. A petition for presentation to Parliament was drawn up and signed by all present. A number of Bush residents intend journeying to Masterton to-morrow to witness the football match, Wairarapa v.N.S.W, ,- : -.-- The cricket match, Pahiatua y, Hawera wa6 won by Pahiatua in the first innings.
