ALFREDTON NOTES.
(By a Coi respondent.) September 20. A painful and peculiar accident happened yesterday afternoon to Mr G. W, Phillips, who was ploughing on his own place. He had occasion to go to tho head of one of his horses and put out his hand to catch hold of therein, when tho brute suddenly threw up his head, striking him a violent blow in the face, and with its teeth making a nasty gash through Mr Phillips' lower lip, half stunning him at tho same time. I am glad to record that ho is progressing favourably, Messrs Kebbcll Bros, and Lee and Hamlin aro breaking up extensive areas fot turnips this season. Six horses may be seen in the doublefuiTow plough at Mr Lee's turning ovcrti-treo stumps, flax roots, etc. A movement is on foot, headed by Mr J. Berney, to start a Cricket Club in Alfrcdton. Several settlors in tho Pali Valloy liavo notified their willingness to join. Mr Berney is an enthusiastic footballer and is playing with tho Kketahuna Club at Palmcrston and Wanganui
