An accident which narrowly escaped proving of a serious nature, happened on on Monday afternoon whilst a funeral cortege was passing the junction roads near the Taratalii Daily Factory. At this spot a vehicle slopped to allow another to join the procession, with the result that those behind had to do likewise. A horse in a gig, driven byMrL. J Hooper, became restive at the stoppage and backed into the ditch, capsizing the vehicle and throwing Mr Hooper out. The' gig righted itself, and the horse' galloped up the road towards Maslertou, but was eventually stopped by some horsemen. Fortunately Mr Hooper received no injury, but the trap suffered to the oxtcnt of a broken shaft.—Observer.
