His sire Renfrew Jock, imported from Victoria as a four-year-old stood sovonteen hands high, was out of Boso by Cowden Lad (imp) who gained six Ist prizes brlore leaving Scotland and many Ist prizes in Victoria, Cowden Lad's sire was Old Scotohman, the property of Mr John Kerr Moiton, dam Mr Eastin's (of Cowden) young prize mare Jean, by friuee Royal, g.d. Blossom by Ben Lomond (imp). Renfrew Jook's sire was the well known horse Benfrew (imp), who gained two first prizes as a year-old, 2 firsts as a two year old.. When three yoars he competed at the Renfrewshire Exhibition of Stallions hold at Patßley against all horses, and was awarded the Duko of Hamilton's premium of 30 suvs. He gained the Champion Cnp at Ballarat on the 13th September 1862, and has beaten every horse that has competed against him. Benfrew Jock gained first prize at Smeaton as a yearling and first as a two year-old at the same place, In 1874 he was imported to New Zealand and was placed second against all comers at Oamaru Show. In 1875 he reversed the order and was placed first in the aged class, atd took the Champion Cup lor the best entire on the ground. This performance he repeated in 1870. In 1879 he was first and ohampion at Timaru, After that ho was sold to the Qeraldino Stud Company. His dam, Queen Bess, tho property of 0. Watson, Esq., is by that noted sire No Surrender, 197 N.Z.B. No Surrender is by that great stallion, King of the Vanquisher, by Young Vanquisher (imp.) When No Surrender was last shown he wai awarded the Hon, Rhodes' prize, 15 guineas, at Timaru, and also tho Timaru A. &P. prize of 5 guineas same day, beating both colonial and imported k(scs.
