NORTH WAIRARAPA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
Monthly Meeting, The ordinary monthly meoting;of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society's Trustees, was held to-day at tho Borough Council Chambers. Present Messrs R. T. Holmes (Chairman), E. Feist, R, D. Dagg, J: Stuckey, W. Perry and W. H, Beetliam. TOOTHS. ' The minutes of the last meeting' were read and confirmed. REPORT ON REGULAR CASES. A report prepared on the motion of Mr Stuckey, giving a detailed statement of all the cases dealt with by the Trustees was read. The report stated the age, occupation,number in family, and the amount paid for relief in each cases, The action of Chairman n.nil Sbp.
J.UBHUUUU oi unairmaa anil sec-1 retary was confirmed "'and relief was ordered to bo continuod together with allowance for rent, • Two applications for relief sent to Sergeant McArdle, were read, and it Was resolved that' the documents bo sent to the Inspector of Police, drawing his attention to the wording of the Police remarks, Tho Trustees considered that it was quite enough to sit at the meeting and dispense relief, without being insulted by the impertinent remarks of the Sergeant, _ OTIIER CASES. A Blenlieim woman, named Mrs Howard, whose husband had left her and was supposed to bo at tho Cape, applied for relief. It appeared from her statement that she wasehargeable to the Blenheim 1 Society. Resolved that enquiries be made and tho Blenheim Society be informed that the Trustees proposed to send her back there at once, and that at present she was being supported at their expense, A man named Clarence Howe, applied for assistance oremployment so that he might earn a livelihood, The Secretary said lie was in hopes of getting employment for Howe atEketahuna, ■ Resolved that the case be left in the hands of the Chairman and Secretary, relief to bo continued in the meautimo, An application was made by Mrs Waterhouse, of Taueru, for' relief. Her husband had left her and took two children, ; John Rose, who had just come out of tho Hospital, waited on the Trustees and stated he had hopes of getting a whare to live in, and to bo able to look after some gates till lie got stronger. He askedfor assistance till he was able to get work—Left with tho Chairman and Secretary to deal with, till next meeting. The action of tho Chairman and Secretary in respect to casual cases was confirmed. 1 • The money duo to Mr Francis on Johnston's case was ordered to be paid, Mr Johnston tobe advised that Lis allowance will be'exhausted in four weoks time, A letter was read from the South|Bsi»Cl.iaritable. Aid Board asking co-operation ill gciting jhe Government to add a clause Act empowering, Board's to bonW from tho Banks by overdraft in anticipation of subsidies. Letter . received, and reply to bo sent that tho Trustees do not see their'way to co-operato. j : The Secretary stated that Henry Williams desired to wait on the Trustees in reference to finding employment, or give him: an increased allowance, „ On the motion of Mr Stuckey, seconded by Mr-Dagg, it was resolved that Williams' application for further assistance cannot bo complied with. 1 treasurer's retort. ■ The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £ll7, against which there were' outstanding accounts amount-! ing to £4910s 2d. i ■ ■ •• ACCOUNTS, I Accounts amounting to £4O 10s 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
