FIRES AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

(By Telegraph,—Press Association), Pauiehston North, Sept. 11. A disastrous fire occurred hero this afternoon at 4 o'clock, by which tlio premises of Mr Bott (coaohbuilder), Messrs Smith and Hall (stablekeepers), Mr Wood (blacksmith), and Messrs Browning and Tory (coaclibuilders) wero totally destroyed. Tlio total damage is estimated at £3,500, covorcd by insurance to tho extent of £1,500, as follows: —£6oo in tlio Victoria office, £250 in tlio Standard office, £IOO in tho Allianco offico, and .£550 in the Now Zealand oflico, Three horses wero burned. All tho vehicles in tho coaoh-builtling establishment were saved. Wednesday, A second fire broke out in Fitzhorbert's law buildings, at 2,55 this morning; the place, which is a two storey building was completely destroyed. The shops on each side, occupied by Harris, chemist, and Withers, were burned through the roof, but the contents of both wero saved, though injured by handling. Mr Fitzhcrbert lost a valuable law library, valued at £l5O, Messrs Perceval, father and son.ono a musician and tho other an artist, lost property valued at£2oo,inc]udinga collection of paintings. Neither were insured. Mr I%,Herbert was insured for £550 in the New Zealand, and in the National for £IOO, but he estimates his loss at £SOO, Mr Hngget's library was insured for £SO in the Norwich Union.
