Last weok Treasurer Ward 001. lected a quarter of a million- of mouoy from the taxpayers of the Colony by a coup d' clot. The finances of the Colony were strong, but he wanted- the money. In vain the
representatives of the people have endeavoured to ascertain what is wrong with the finances, of New Zealand, They know that a'screw is: loose somewhere, but Mr Ward | won't say which screw or what screw, is adrift, and so doubt and suspicion is genorated, and there is an expectation of further surprises disastrous to the Colony. Is Mr Ward as a Colonial Treasurer out of his depth? We fear from tho way he flounders about that such must be the case.
