'jH As most of tbo owners of stud kvo now mado their preliminary an. f'H nouncenicnts, it may not bo out of to make a few remarks on tbeprineipal;|H borscs now at tbo service of Wairarapa \ H breeders. There can be no doubt breeders—whether for racing, "Shinting, 7| or the more, staid purpose of the buggy, 't H trap, or farm horso,—cannot' complain", '] H of the clipico of sires at-their disposal, ",'H They can liavo strains of the best sires ' H that have ever stood in the Australian • ;fl Colonies, and who have not only raced v ■ home themselves as winners, but hare I loft behind them real clinkers on the flat I or over fences. With such opportunities , ■ it is not to be wondered at that the '■ Wnirarapacanclnim to have produced *■ somo of the fastest racers that Tiave np- <fl penredon tho colonial turf/;' I ;! DebBIKOEH,; 1 '1 the property of Mr J. 0. Hayward, ' J Kaiwaiwai, is ono of the handsomest, /I and most muscular sires to be found in ;;| any stud, being by Musket, one of the ' I best 'sires ever imported, from Hosalie „£ by Patriarch, ofold(imp,)bylrishßlfTOtcher. He V contains nil tho most fashionablo lines of running blood, for generations back, and his ancestors on both sideparcnoted ■=» turf celebrities.. His stock they canraco. For instance, Ectribution —in addition to other events—won the Boxing Day Handicap, at Poverty Bay, and his daughter, Valentin, both two-year-old races at tho mid-summer meet- ' mg. This will be his last season hi the Wairarapa. In the samo stablo wo find Ascot, . ," who as a sire, needs no.puff. His son r Norton, tlioN.Z. Grand National winner, has mado a nanio for him as a sire, that will be. living when many arc dead to tho world, His sire Kelpie (imp.) got some of the very best race horses bred in Australia, ■ and his dam, Tho Thorn, was a daughter of The Barb, (tho champion of his day), for ho won the champion Melbourne and two Sydney Cups), from BrownDuclioss wg.d. of Abercom, for whom Mrs -White S** has refused 10,000 guineas. Tho $Jk Eef eree has devoted a special leadcron *' the merits of Norton, tho substance of - which is in a few words that thoy consider him the best horse underweight that has ever been over tho Biccarton country. This alono should bo sufficient to recommend Ascot to breeders of this district. But he has also sired other good ones, including Monto Carlo, Cretonne, Hark, Poinscttia, Entry, Scotchman, Goodwood, Gold Cup, and that promising three year old, Tuhvliic. l. Mr Hayward bus already bad se\ oral ~ offers for the purchase of Ascot for the stud in the South Island, but ho has determined to retain his horso in tho Wairarapa for the benefit of our local brccdors.

His stock havo also mado excellent performances over fences. Master Agnes' quarters are at Mr Corlctt's farm, comer of Morton's Line, Carterton, r~ IiANDffICK, bred by Mr Isaac Lee, of New South Wales, has himself left an oxccllont / record as a racehorse, and was never * particular to what weight ho carried, or » what distance ho had to travel, for, fit and well, he generally got homo ahead, llandwick has strains of the best blood that has yet raced in the Australasian Colonies, being hy tho Barbarian, a son of Sir Hercules. A bright bay, he is a stylish horse, with plenty of bono and muscle, Himself a large winner amongst fc good company ho is a very likely horso r to leave racers, Eandwick is tho property of Mr A. W.
