Otnirte, ' Sergeant MpArdb slated tl|o accused came to liirn on Saturday and received an order from the Benevolent Society for board and lodgings till Monday morning, On Monday lio was found to bo drinking with Courtney, and when the laticr's back was turned accused stole his swag, and took out a pair of boots aud oxchanged them for lus own. This was not the action of a drunken man. Subsequently accused offered the swag for sale to a mau named McGuire,' from whom lie received 5s 6d for it. • Accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour.
