The Imperial Volunteers decoration for officers of over twenty years service in Volutcer Corps, has been extonded to the Colonics and India. Another old identity has passed away Mr John Shaw, who died last week at Awahuri, Manawatu, Mr Shaw, who was widely respected, arrived in Wellington more than fifty years ago with the first detachment of the 67thBegiracnt He was 74 years of ago at the time of death.

; Another old identity has passedaway in the person of Mrs Barton, senr,, of Alieetowu, Lower Hutt. The deceased lady, who was well known in tho Wairarapa, and had attained the ripe age of 78 years, arrived in the Colony 77 years ago with her father, the lev Mr Butler Church of England Missionary. For somo years sho resided iu the Bay of Islands, passing through the troublous times of tho Maori wars, and in the early forties she took up her abode at Trcntham, Upper Hutt, where sho lived until two years since. Sho leaves two sous-Mr John Barton, of Nelson, and Mr Williamßarton, now in England. During her long residence in tho Hutt district (says the Times) the deceased had taken a great interest in church matters, and tho churches in tho district owe much to her generosity, Her husband died 25 years ago. For years it has been the custom of the Postal authorities to send officers of their department to San Francisco on board tho mail boats to sort tho mails aud arrange them for immediate delivery at tho port of arrival. Tins is regarded, of course, as a very agreeable break in the round of offico work, and men arc selected in turn from the various branches throughout the Colony for the trip. But the young women employed in tho Postal Department fail to see why they also should not havo this opportunity of a run to San Francisco and back. Two of theni accordingly applied for permission to act as assistant mailagents on board tho San Francisco steamers.
