THE THEATRE ROYAL.

A meeting was held last-evening at the Empire Hotel, Masterton, to : consider the advisability of forming l a limited, liability company to take ' over and carry on the Theatre Royal, Masterton. Mr Pownall, convenor of the meeting was voted to the chair, and explained that if a com- : pany were formed they conld obtain the present building and sito for LI2OO, Interest, insurance and taxes would—roughly about Lll7 a year, aridhe considered that the company : could extend the present building, sell the cottage at the- back, and, erect two shops in front, which alone would bring in LIOO a year, thereby leaving only a small sum to go against the rent of the theatre itself. With a good wellappointed theatre, -'good companies could easily be got to come here,;es ; pecially after the line was made through to Woodville, as the cost of the transit of their baggage would bo so much less. If a'companywere formed with a capital of L 2,000 in LI shares, he thought that there would be no difficulty in carrying out the project. Only 10s would require to be called up in the meantime, the balance, if requirod, could be called up in small sums of say ouo shilling a month, He thought .about LSOO would make the necessary alterations. After some discussion it was resolved, on tho motion of Mr Cargill, seconded by Mr D. R. Robinson, that a Limited Liability Company be formed, with a capital of L 2,000, to purchase and carry on the Masterton Theatre Royal. It was decided that 5s he paid On ' application and 5s on allotment, and future calls at the rate of Is per ! month, the preliminary expenses for brokerage, etc., not to exceed'one i shilling per share,to be hypothecated

out of tho application fee, , Messrs W.O, Cargill, Pownall, T,, Thompson, D, R, Robinson, and J. E.Hoodwere appointed a provisional directorate to issue appoint brokers, Secretary, etc, another held in a fortnight. 126 shares were before tho meeting disj^^^^H
