EXECUTION OF SANTO.
Paris, August 10th, Santo, the assassin of the lato President was executed to-day . The doomed man was scarcely able to walk to tho placo of execution, and trembled violently. Oil reaching the guillotine lie turned towards the crowd and cried, "Courage, comrades; Viae JJAnarchic!" as tho knife dropped. Several persons, in response to Santo's cry, shouted "Bravo!" When Santo was awakened to bo led out to the guillotine ho was pale and trembling. He declined the chaplain's offices, but asked for a drink of rum. When the executioner pushed him under the knife the crowd cheered lustily, " Justice is done."
The windows overlooking the scene commanded fabulous prices, and wero crowded. Ladies dressed in fashionable toilets waited all night to see the execution.
While the assnssin was being prepared other prisoijers cried "Vivol' Anarchio."
