The petition of tlie : undersigned residents in the Colony of New Zealand of tlie ago of twenty-One years and upwards, -"' , Humbly slioweth, that your Honourable Hotise is not yet possessed of such information as will enable it to judge of the number .-.of persons in New Zealand who desire that the importation/ manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquor as a beverage should'be prohibited. Your petitioners tliereforo humbly pray that your Honourable Hotise will cause to be taken, within twelve mouths from tho receipt of this petition, or as early thereafter as conveniently may be, a Ballot Voto of the Parliamentary Electors upon the question of tho Colonial Prohibition of the Liquor Traffic, submitting tlife issue in the followingterriis upon the voting paper':— : " Are you in favour • of the im : mediate prohibition by law, throughout New Zealand, of tlio importation, manufacture, and sale of intoxicating liquors as a boverago ? Yes or No."
