Tho Second-hand Dealers Act was approved in its entirety, as it was considered a measure of this nature was necessary for tlio prevention of crimo and tho better discovery ot tho criminal. The Gaming Bill was adopted, the principal features in favour of its adoption being tho abolition of" tote" shops and " toto" betting, and tho surrounding of young people with safeguards from betting inlluoucos,

Somo objection to expressed to tho proposal to put a protectee duty on fruit, in the manner suggested by Mr • Ward, as it was not the kind of protection fruit-growers required, and it would possibly be found antagonistic to tho reciprocity proposals.

Tlio meeting considered that Mr Ward ivas to bo congratulated on his bold and progressive proposals which, tho meeting was of opinion, would go far in solving tho difficulties attending tlio land qucstion, nnd settling to a very great extent the unemployed and labour difficulties. It was remarked that this industry was nt presont in a most unsatisfactory condition in this district.
