St Matthew's Church.

Annual Meeting of Parishioners. The annual meeting of the parishioners of St Matthew's Church, Masterton,' was held.in tho Sunday School, last night, a large number being present. Mill. Brown, clergyman's churchwarden, was in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. On the motion of Mr P. G. Moore, seconded by Mr J. Payton, the balance sheet, items from which wo have already published, was recoived and adopted as read.

Mr W. H. Bcctham proposed the election of Mr F,G. Moore as Parishioners' Churchwarden,

Mr W. H. Jackson seconded the motion, which was carried.

Mr Moore briefly returned thanks, and in doing so, remarked that until the parisliioters became thoroughly united, they would not make a success of their church affairs. They ought to appoint a suitable Minister to the Church.

Mr J. Payton slated that a list of I suitable vestrymen had been put in his j hand to propose. The names were : Messrs C, P. Gaivjlh, Dr. Beard, It. T, Holmes, W, H, Beet-ham, IV. G.' Beard. D. E. llobiuson, J. Payton, H. Millington, 11. R Temple, W.L. Forde. He would move that these be appointed as vestrymen for the ensuing year. Mr W. Scllnr seconded the motion which was carried.

Mr W. B. Clicnnclh read the balancesheet of the Sunday School, and also the report, The latter stated that the attendance was well maintained, sometimes nearly 130 pupils being present. The teaching stuff had been considerably augmented, and now numbered 16. Many thanks were due fo tho Superintendent (Mrs Fannin) for hpr'assistancc. The teachers desired to testify their regret at the recent departure of, Mrs W. £. Paige. Somo small repairs were necessary, including, the painting of tho walls of the schoolroom, and tho providing of class-rooms in place of tho present single room. Mr Payton moved tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet, ami a vote of thanks to the teachers, and tho present and late Supcrintcudeuts.-Carricd. Mr Bcctham stated that he bad receiyed a private letter from a gentleman in Napier, speaking hi eulogistic terms oftheliev. A. C. Yorkc, and stating that ho would probably accept tho position of incumbent on the guarantee of £250, if it wcro offered to him.

Bcetham remarked that although he was averse to the clergyman's stipend, or auy portion of itdieing raised Ibybazaarsorspccialsubscriptions, there was ono matter to which thcladies might turn their attention.
