[TO THK EDITOR WAIRAHAI'A DAILY TIMES.] JL*-, J Sir,— From a recently published ■'feturn, I see tlmt during the month fibl Juno lust, thorc wei'o no less than 21 deaths from cancer—3 at Auckland, 7 :it Wellington, 6 at Christcluirch, and 5 at Duncdin. This much-dreaded disease caused more deaths than any other during Juno in the four centres uudthcirsuburhs. Cancer is a terrible foe, and that it is increasing at an alarming rate is only too true, This increuso in the disenso is most noticeable in New Zealand, and it behoves all those in power to endeavour to stamp out the foo, which sends its roots abroad into almost all parts of the body, and grips with the clutch of death. Tho disease is spread vory much through the sale of cancerous meat, and Municipal bodies should set to work and erect public abattoirs, and ' have-all beasts that are to beslaughtered for t-lio butcher inspected,with the object of ascertaining that they aro fit for food, I am.
